A representative for Def Jam has confirmed to EW.com that hip-hop artist Nas has made an eleventh-hour decision to change the title of his new album from N----- to simply Nas. The Queens rapper sparked a heated debate last fall when he announced the provocative title for his upcoming ninth record, but last October, Island Def Jam Music Group chair Antonio "L.A." Reid publicly denied widespread reports that label execs were uncomfortable with his decision. "We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure," Reid told MTV News at the time. "Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him."

_Ok so if you have been following hiphop at all for the past 6 months, you know that Nas had an album set to release by the name of Nigger. Alot of people have been telling me they think that he is going overboard and is just trying to create buzz for his upcoming release. Me being a fan of the culture and an advocate of the artistry that i think voices like nas possess, i countered their arguments. I believed that nas was making a polictical statement, trying to put the power back into the word. (he stated in an interview that he witinessed young white suburban kids calling eachother nigger, which sparked the album title.) But after i read this , im beggining to think that the whole thing was a marketing tool. Why six months down the line, when the album is less than two months away , would you change the title of the album. Because the "label" wont let you do it? BULLSHIT. if nas really cared about this album as a piece of art and wanted it to be heard. it could have been released. I think its really immature to use the word to get people to pay attention to your album. This album has potential to make some noise. To get people talking. Now we are stuck with an album called Nas. I will be downloading this.
